Making Money & Where To Go
The first thing you need to know is that you will not be making $1500 a week as they promise and advertise. The average driver for both ride-share services will make a approximately $500 to $700 a week working damn near all day. My goal was always $100 a day! Id work from 8am to 12am sometimes and barely would make a $100. The most I've made in one day is $160 in 8 hours and that's because it stayed consecutively busy.
Since December of 2015 I've driven for Uber and Lyft. Channel's 2 news reporter Clark Howard did a report on it to see if it was worth it and his result's were, "Don't Quit Your Job!". There are too many drivers out and not enough revenue. The times that I actually made some dinero, were simply because there were not as many drivers out. Valentines Day weekend just happen to be that weekend I made that $160. When normally there are 50 drivers out, there was only 20 that Saturday weekend.
Once you are a driver, your only worry to keep your job will be to keep a customer rating above 4.6 out of 5 stars. If you fall below you will be suspended that day you fall without any time to get enough 5 stars to catch up. However, you will be reinstated once you take a $50 chauffeur class. Oh yea, you have to at least take 1 ride per month that way Uber/Lyft knows you are still an active driver.
Since technically you will be making less that minimum wage at times, except all tips. Keeping your car clean and going the route the customer says are always good pointers. Cancel all rides that don't answer the phone and do not know the gate code to get into apartment complexes. If for any reason you are going to be late getting a customer; CANCEL the ride. They will hardly ever give you 5 stars for showing up even 3 to 4 minutes late. If they take longer than 5 minutes to get to the car; CANCEL. Even when its their fault, they will not rate you accordingly. If a situation arises and you know they will not rate you fairly, report it and Uber/Lyft will take your side 99% of the time. The last advise is to be-careful with riders who are not the account holder. 50% of my rides are orders for other people. Friends and family will make extra stops and you will get the blame! Although they still have to pay, they will not rate you fairly because of their family/friends that want to go to the store real quick or go to another address.
Here are some places that I get pinged the most! As for Downtown, Atlanta; you will be surprised how dead it is at the center of the city so head toward North Druid Hills Area. Otherwise:
- 5675 Jimmy Carter Blvd, Norcross, GA (exit 99)
- 820 Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd NW, Lawrenceville, GA
- 630 Collins Hill Rd, Lawrenceville, GA
